The FBI’s new North Campus on Redstone Arsenal is one step closer to completion.
The Huntsville Business Journal reported today that the North Campus Commons and Technology 1 Building, the first two of many to come, are now complete. Hensel Phelps was the firm contracted for the design and construction of the buildings. Read on for more info.
The FBI’s plan to expand its Huntsville campus was first announced in late 2019. The new facility, called the North Campus, will be an extension of the FBI’s already existing presence on Redstone Arsenal. Currently, the Bureau’s Hazardous Device School and the Terrorist Explosive Device Analytical Center employ nearly 400 individuals in and around Huntsville.
The facilities’ completion comes just over a month after Sen. Richard Shelby’s announcement that the total FBI investment in Huntsville has topped $2.4 billion, according to AL.com. The new facility accounts for $1 billion of that investment.
Along with new buildings come new employees. The FBI is planning to move upwards of 3,000 employees to the new Huntsville facility, effectively making Redstone Arsenal the Bureau’s “HQ2,” or secondary headquarters.
Other building projects coming down the pipeline include things like the FBI Innovation Center, which broke ground last summer and will feature the following:
